  Introduction of Speaker:

  Dr. Kawamura is a professor of electrical engineering at Vanderbilt University, Nashville. He received M.S. degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and Ph. D. degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, all in electrical engineering. Prof. Kawamura is an internationally known researcher and educator in the fields of humanoids and cognitive robotics. Up till now, he has published over 170 research papers, and co-authored a book and book chapters in the fields of intelligent systems and humanoid robotics. He conducts research in cognitive control, robot skill learning, and cognitive robot architecture at Vanderbilt. Besides, Prof. Kawamura is the Founding Chair of the Technical Committee on Service Robots for the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and was General Chairs of three IEEE International Conferences. He is the Honorary General Chair of RO-MAN 2018 to be held in Nanjing. He is a Fellow of IEEE for pioneering work on human-robot synergistic systems as well as a member of the Editorial Board of International Journal of Humanoid Robotics.

  Abstract:

  Robots of the future should be able to learn necessary skills and interact with humans as naturally as possible. In this lecture, Prof. Kawamura will present an emerging field of Cognitive Robotics and discuss challenges in realizing cognitive robots
